3 things you DON’T need to make money

No matter what profession you’re in, you could AND should be earning significantly more than you currently do.

*drops mic* End of post.

LOL. No, but seriously…

You may think…

“Sure, I have the ability to earn more…eventually. Later on. But not right now. Because first, I need a logo. I need a publicist. I need two more college degrees. I need…”

Nuh-uh. Pump the brakes, boo!

You don’t need any of that. Those are procrasti-blocks that you’re inventing to delay your ability to generate millions.

Let me tell you… in my years of building my business from $0 to 8 figures, I’ve discovered that there are so many things you do NOT need to start making more money right now.

Here are 3 of those things that you probably think you absolutely need, but really you don’t:

1. You don’t need a huge online following.

If you’ve got thousands of online fans who can’t wait to purchase from you, amazing! Good work.

But a gigantic mailing list (or social media following) is not required.

If you don’t have a massive following (yet) then here’s what you can do to get more cash in the door:

Start a Word document. In that doc, type a list of people’s names: friends, family, colleagues, teachers, mentors, previous and current clients, employers, local business owners, and other people who already know you, or who might like to meet you.

Email each person individually to either (A) invite them to hire you or (B) ask them to help you get hired.

When emailing a potential client, send a note to say:

“Hey! I’m a big fan of you [or your company] and wanted to introduce myself. I [describe the product or service you offer]. I’m not sure if you’re looking for [product or service] right now, but if you are, I’d love to work with you.”

If you’re emailing a friend or family member, say:

“Hi! I have some exciting news: I’ve decided to start a side business! I’m offering [describe the product or service you offer]. I have space for a couple new clients right now. / I’m looking for a few new potential customers to try out my product line. If you happen to know anybody who needs [product or service], feel free to give them my email address. Send them my way! Thank you.”

You can line up your next 10 paying clients just like that. Instagram-fame not required.

2. You don’t need a fancy website.

Trust me, you REALLY don’t.

If you’ve got one, excellent. If you don’t, write a simple email (see above) with a few sentences describing what you offer: dog training, wellness coaching, legal services, natural skincare products, etc. Line up your clients that way.

“But how will I take payments if I don’t have a website?”

Don’t get me started. There’s Venmo. PayPal. Stripe. Cash App. Wave. Direct bank transfer. An empty baseball cap so people can stuff cash inside.

Later on, if you want, you can upgrade to a more sophisticated payment system. But for starters, just pick something and run with it.

3. You don’t need a clever business name.

I know plenty of successful people who never came up with a clever business name. Their business is simply their own name.

For instance, Farnoosh Torabi is one of the top-ranked podcasters on the planet and a badass entrepreneur. Her company is simply called…wait for it…Farnoosh Inc.

Yup. It’s just her own name. And she’s making seven figures per year.

If you eventually come up with an exciting name for your business (like “The Pampered Poodle Dog Grooming Services”), that’s great. But it’s not necessary.

You can get started–and get more money rolling through the door–without a clever business name.

Now, I know I said I was only going to tell you 3 things you don’t need to start making more money, but here’s one more (possibly the most important one):

You don’t need to have it all figured out.

Nobody has it all figured out. Even established companies that generate multi-millions per year still don’t have everything figured out.

Just take the first step. Send the first email. Book that first (or next) client. Take that payment. Do the thing you feel nervous to do. You can learn–and earn–as you go.

TL;DR

In order to start making more money, you do not need a gigantic online following, a fancy website, a clever business name, or “everything all figured out.” You just need to get going.

Shift your attitude from, “I can earn more eventually” to “I can earn more right now.”

Eliminate all the make-believe obstacles between you and the cash that you want. Stop stalling…

And go get that shmoney.

xo,

R
